Paul is a familiar face around the club and has a history of over 30 years at St Albans Hockey Club. He joined as a seven year old in the youth section at Clarence Park and started playing Men’s 1s hockey at the young age of 15. During his time at the club Paul has enjoyed playing hockey at National League level for numerous seasons and has been heavily involved in our success in indoor hockey.
John Garner, Head of Club Hockey commented, “We are very excited to appoint Paul as our Head of Men’s Performance Hockey. His appointment fits in with our policy of developing and promoting ‘home grown talent’. As well as bringing over 30 years of playing hockey experience to the role, Paul has demonstrated his coaching skills in adult and youth hockey and indoor hockey. Paul’s long connection with St Albans Hockey club is important as we start to implement a five year plan which is aimed at developing our 125 year old club at all levels and in all areas.”
During the last few seasons Paul has performed the role of Men’s 2s Player / Coach supporting Dillet Gilkes, our previous Head of Men’s Performance Hockey. He now feels ready and excited to move up into the exciting role and take the Men’s 1s & 2s sides to the next level.
Paul will continue the club’s long tradition of nurturing and developing our young talent and has the vision of our Men’s 2s returning to the East Prem division and our Men’s 1s experiencing the next level of National League Hockey.
Paul will also continue to coach the Men’s Indoor Hockey squad and build upon the club’s recent indoor success to take them back to the top of the National Indoor Hockey scene.
Paul said, “I am delighted to be leading the Men’s Performance squad coaching and hopefully giving others the opportunities that I have benefited from over the years. St Albans Hockey Club has been an important part of my life and this is a natural step in my connection with the club.”
St Albans Hockey club would like to congratulate Paul on this appointment and look forward to working with him to achieve his aspirations for the Men’s Performance squads. Paul has already started his role - the Men’s Performance Squad pre-season training starts on Tuesday 1st August at Oaklands College from 7.30pm-9.30pm.
