Wanderers Australia invite teenage players from all across Australia to join a touring party, who then head to Europe for a mixture of hockey and sightseeing. SAHC have hosted these teams year on year since 2017 (missing a couple of Covid years), with our youth players building friendships every time.
Last Tuesday evening the weather just about held for us, and our U16s and U18s spent time with the Aussies on the pitches and then up in the Clubhouse. It was honours even in all three matches which weren't stopped by the cold weather (our U18 girls sadly couldn't play as the pitch was frozen), with some great hockey on display. The Clubhouse was then filled to bursting as the players and coaches all enjoyed some food, a few drinks, and time to chat. Then all the players were taken back to their host houses - to exchange more hockey tales and all important Snapchat details!
Hosting these teams is always an amazing evening - and is only possible due to the generosity of the St Albans families who provide accommodation, and to the team of volunteers who help organise the evening. Thank you all for being a part of it. It's an amazing display of the strength of the hockey family - our communities might usually be half a world apart but our sport really does bring us together.
