9. GUIDELINES: PLAYING

MEMBERSHIP
This is by invitation only. Prospective members who contact Club officials will usually be invited to play in one of the teams. At various times during the season, principally in November, the Hockey Committee review prospective new members. If appropriate, they make a recommendation to the Management Committee. On acceptance, the new member is formally notified and must pay his/her subscription within one month of notification.

SELECTION
The Selection Committees for the women's and men’s sections meet on Saturday evenings. Unless otherwise advised, each player should assume that s/he is playing for the same side as before and that match details are as given by the Captain of that game. A player selected for a different side, or who was unavailable for the previous game, is informed of the details of the next game as soon as practicable following selection. Details will be posted on the website.

AVAILABILITY
Immediately after each game, each player must inform their Captain of their availability or otherwise for subsequent games, so that accurate data is available for Selection. Availability can also be posted on the website so always follow the instructions of your Captain.

CANCELLATIONS
Wherever possible, each Captain will inform their players of cancellation as soon as this has happened. If there is any doubt, players should assume the game WILL be played, or should check with the team Captain or Vice-Captain, or with the Teams Secretary.

ILLNESS, INJURY, UNAVAILABILITY
If for some reason a player becomes unavailable after declaring themself available for a game, they should notify the team Captain or Vice-captain as soon as possible. As a last resort, if they are unable to contact their Captain or Vice-captain, they should inform their Club Captain or Teams Secretary, until they get confirmation that their message has been received.

DISCIPLINE
Captains must report to the Hockey Committee any player misconduct, foul play, warnings and suspensions. These will be recorded by the Hockey Committee. If it is thought necessary, appropriate action will be taken against the player by warning or temporary suspension.

TRANSPORT
For home games, players should report PROMPTLY to the appropriate pitch at the stipulated time unless they have made a prior arrangement with their Captain. The Captain needs to organise the team and discuss tactics, and players need to warm up. For away games, the official meeting place is Oaklands Hockey Centre. Players must report here at the stipulated time.

MATCH FEES
Match fees for games listed in the fixture card are incorporated in the subscription rates.

PRE-MATCH WARM-UP
While this is an important activity, please do NOT knock up on the artificial pitch when a game is in progress, as this distracts the players and umpires.

USE OF THE ARTIFICIAL PITCHES AT OAKLANDS COLLEGE
Care must be taken not to take mud onto the pitches. Please wipe your feet on the mats provided at the entrance to the cage surrounding the pitches.
